My name is Alexandra, I’m a 24 year-old cosmetologist from Detroit, Michigan. I spend most of my time drawing, creating, painting, and dreaming about what my next creations will be.

It all started in 2007 when I got a job at a nail salon. I was a receptionist and the girl who had to clean and pick up after all of the nail techs. I was a 19 year-old  college student, doing the daily grind, and making sure I saved up my money for next semester’s books. I immediately became fascinated by the nail polish, the sculpting, and the art that surrounded me.

Day by day, I would watch my bosses work on their clients- the sculpting of nails and painting fascinated me. Eventually I started to play around with nail stripers and nail polish. I remember my boss trying to teach me how to polish his nail, and then quickly taking the bottle away from me and saying “uhh, you’re not quite ready for this yet.” Yeah, I was pretty bad at it. And by pretty bad at it, I mean really bad at it.

With determination and practice comes more experience, and here I am now. After completing 1500 hours of cosmetology studies at Michigan College of Beauty, and after working at a couple of salons, I started my new chapter in life. I became an entrepreneur and business owner at the age of  23 and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I love my career, I love my hobby, and I love all of the amazing and wonderful people I’ve met along the way. I’ve been featured on MTV and magazines such as Nails Magazine, High Snobette, Trend Hunter and many more. I have also won several nail contests and competitions. With the support of my family, friends, and a lot of determination I stuck with my dream of being a  nail designer.

I will say, though, that one of my favorite parts of  my job and hobby is all of the amazing people I get to meet every day. The people who take a moment to message me and tell me how much they appreciate my art is what keeps me going. The kind of audience this industry attracts is such a unique and incredible group. Anyone who can appreciate art is a beautiful person with a deep soul. So, I would like to thank you for taking a moment to read this, and for giving me inspiration. I owe my success to you.
